Be a part of our new school. Quetico is searching for faculty members who share a joy for our Northwestern Ontario community and the opportunity to create curricula for students centred on project-based learning. If you are a certified Ontario College of Teachers professional and are accredited with a Secondary School subject, please forward your resume and letter of interest to us. We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful campus.
The school is scheduled to begin operation in September, 2018. Involvement will appeal to a teacher who would like to be a part of creating a new secondary school.
Quetico College School comprises 100 acres of lakeshore property in NW Ontario, 170 km west of Thunder Bay (a major city of 110,000 with airport). The school is the former site of a Conference Centre (Quetico Centre) and has 90 individual rooms in 3 modern residence buildings along with 5 homes, a 15 room classroom block, indoor recreation centre with swimming pool, gymnasium and media centre, 120 seat dining hall, office building and workshop. The entire complex has been carefully created to provide a full service facility that takes advantage of such a natural, secluded location yet has all modern communications technology. The facility was purchased a few years ago and has undergone renovations to ensure safe, comfortable use as a boarding school for grades 9 to 12. The school curriculum will meet Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines but will be created in a fashion similar to High Tech High (San Diego, USA: www.hightechhigh.org) and University Technical Colleges (England: wwwutcolleges.org). Prospective teachers should have experience designing and delivering project-based learning at the secondary level. While the school is located in a very outdoor setting (on the northern boundary of Quetico Provincial Park, renowned for its canoe tripping), outdoor education will be a part of everyday life at the school and not a focal point surpassing its emphasis on creative, innovative deeper learning techniques.
The prospective teacher will be an integral part of the Quetico College School community whilst the school is in session and include student mentoring and supervision, guidance and instruction, sports and activities and the creation of a centre of learning for students from Canada and around the world. Like other boarding schools, the teaching staff will be involved 24/7 during school session but will have breaks away from the school for extended Holiday periods.
Quetico College School seeks innovative teachers prepared to create multi-disciplinary learning strategies to engage young people in project-based learning as they prepare for the challenges that await their futures. Experience with sports and recreational skills appropriate to our outdoor location would be an asset. Salaries are comparable to public secondary school teachers. Accommodations are included with employment.
